Bobby East who is the current CEO of XYZ Entertainment, has spoken out about the experience of discovering the late Daev Zambia (David Phiri), likening it to “pulling off a Lamine Yamal transfer”. Such talent is irreplaceable. Speaking on the Kenny T Podcast, Bobby East said that he discovered Daev while he was still in high school when he would quietly go to the studio to do backing vocals.
In 2015, Bobby East thought it was a wise decision making Daev Zambia do more hooks and features unlike when he was just doing backing vocals. After that decision, he then saw the rise of Daev Zambia. There first major music collaboration was on a song titled “Next to You” which was an instant hit and it wouldn’t be until that featured song that Daev would make his mark with that voice of his.
Bobby says that now, in 2025, Daev is still an irreplaceable artist to him and he also compared his legacy similar to the late P Jay. When Daev died with a tragic car accident in 2020, Bobby later admitted that XYZ was lost and it passed through hard times.
